Frozen eyelashes are par for the course when one takes a spring walk in the Arctic.
This photo was taken in March, and the temperature was minus 38 celcius, not counting
windchill. My trusty parka offered protection for temperatures as low as
minus 70. So I was safe, but I can't say I was exactly warm! You couldn't let the weather stop you from taking
walks outdoors. Otherwise you'd get cabin fever and be on a one-way
plane ride southbound before you knew what hit you.
The weather made for an endless source of things to talk about on my daily radio
show, broadcast from the CBC studio in Iqaluit. The weather is one of the topics
of the stories listed below. Enjoy.
